How to restore a completely dead car battery (the easy way)
I do this often, especially if my vehicles sit for too long and the battery dies. The secret is to get the battery to 12 volts for even a few seconds, so that the charger will recognize it and start charging (for modern "smart" chargers.) I use my jump pack, but any type of jump will work. Once the car runs for a few minutes, as long as the alternator is also good, there should be 12 volts for a short time.
The charger I use is a $40 "Fully Automatic Microprocessor-Controlled Battery Charger/Maintainer" from Harbor Freight. If I don't get the battery to at least 10 volts, it will not attempt to fully charge the battery. All the "smart" chargers I've used have done this, but I found out that getting it to 12 volts by jumping and running easily tricks the charger into reconditioning the dead battery.

How to shorten a driveshaft at home.
Переглядів 19 тис.2 роки тому
This is how I shorten a driveshaft at home with not much more than a bandsaw and a welder. While this may seem like a difficult process, it is actually quite easy to do. And as long as you put everything together in the same orientation that you took it apart, the chance of it being terribly out of balance is pretty small.

    I would like to know how you got rid of the refrigerate. I don't know anything about impact wrenches..are the expensive..do you needed a commercial compressor to run a impact wrenches

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab 4 дні тому

      I don't believe this had any refrigerant in it. You can usually unbolt the compressor from the mount and move it out of the way to pull the engine without opening the A/C lines, if you're worried about it. Many shops might even purge your system for free if they get to reclaim and keep the refrigerant. As for impacts, electric is now the way to go. Harbor Freight has some decently powered 20v impact guns. But most of the time, you can just use a breaker bar and do it by hand, it doesn't take that much longer.

    i have a very small sandblaster, a very small oven, very small car, and new calipers. I am going to finally try doing this myself thanks to your awesome video! Thanks for taking the time to show us beginners how to properly do this!! Would you say that a clear coat is required? Or only for your special base colour?

    • @tinygaragefab
      @tinygaragefab Місяць тому

      If the calipers are brand new, then just clean them really good with brake cleaner, don't even bother with blasting. But if they are painted or rusty, then blast them. Clear was mandatory for the "illusion" powder that I used here. Most powders do not require it, but it can add an extra level of gloss (or satin/matte) if that's the look you want. Have fun with it. You'll do great!

    I've done this with pretty good results a couple of times by just cutting the tube after laying down a line long enough to match up the two left over pieces. Clamp those parts to a piece of angle iron and weld it back together. The first one was for a '72 Chev pickup, and the second was for a demo derby car, that admittedly did not have to travel at speed, but did not break during the derby.

    only thing & to me it is a big thing, that I dont like about these type trail welders with spool on the end.... is when watching folk use them in vids..... half the time or more the spool is in the way and the welder has to crawl all over the place back and forth to reposition themselves and the gun. Hopefully I am getting around this with a vintage snap on luggable (listed as portable; but not really) 24v welder. Similar to suitcase welders of today but at 5th the price (if it still works) PS- someone started a vacebook page on Vintage portable welders (change v to f) . Please do stop in and add your vintage setup or help out with others dealing with them. Search for group name "Vintage: Portable Battery/Alternator Welders"

    Great video and very informative!! Yours was measured in 6x3x13.1 mm is your measurements for your car. My car is a 2016 Subaru Forester. On Amazon it shows options to buy 4 -8 fuel filter baskets that comes with that basket fuel injector basket removal tool. It made it sound like the fuel injector filter baskets were all the same. Obviously not and you pointed that out but Amazon did not. It goes to show you how crooked this world is in ripping you off. (4) 2016 Subaru Forester fuel injectors are $500. I never knew you could rebuild these and never replaced one. I look forward to getting my car fixed as it has 84k miles and from 31-32 mpg it guzzles gas bad at 16-18 mpg which is pitiful. i used one of those corded 7.5v 0.500mA power packs it worked, i have used car batteries but i did notice the injector warm up in my hand. even at 9v dc at .75amps they get warm IF you accidentally leave it on, ended up using a momentary on switch from a windrcreen washer kit i had lying around, i destroyed an injector trying to remove the bucket screen so im just buy the tool. i think theres a fine line between a screw that is just right and one that just ruins your day, it was a very good injector too lucky i have spares im going to get more used injectors that i can practice removing these screens LOL
